NISSAN

TAKE A STEP BACK THROUGH NAVARA HISTORY

Now that the all-new Nissan NP300 Navara has arrived on our shores, we're taking a look through the Nissan pickup's rich history. Since launching the first pickup model, the Datsun 14T in 1933, Nissan have been literally defining the benchmark for pickups.

Driven in 180 countries across the world and with more than 15 million units produced to date, the Nissan pickup is truly a legend of the roads.

THE DATSUN 12 IS BORN

The first Nissan small commercial vehicle, the Datsun 12 Pickup, marked the birth of the Datsun series. Based on the Datsun 12 passenger cars, it featured the DAT 748cc side valve engine (12hp), floor change 3-speed transmission and measured 2,770mm in length.

The Datsun 220 became the first of its kind to introduce a revolutionary 988cc overhead valve engine. Delivering 34hp, the modern engine was the first to have a 12-volt electrical system and heralded the beginning of global recognition for Nissan.

DATSUN 620

The first Datsun pickup offered both Single and Dual Cab styles, the Datsun 620 offered Nissan drivers the flexibility and comfort other pickups couldn't. Coupled with a J15 engine (77hp) yielding a top speed of 135kmh, it continued to build the Nissan reputation for durability and reliability against much larger pickups in the United States.

The Nissan D21 offered drivers a greater level of comfort and innovation with the choice of Single, Dual and King Cab models along with five-speed manual or four-speed automatic models. However, the most impressive addition was the introduction of the game-changing V6 engine in some models.

NISSAN PICKUP D22

Introduced in 1997 with the option of five engine types and the choice of 2WD or 4WD, the Nissan Pickup D22 was bred for strength and diversity. Known today as the Navara D22, this tried and tested pickup can conquer any challenge thrown its way.
